Great career mobility with company experiencing fast-paced planned growth in a high-volume setting. This is a key management and leadership role. Must have prior supervisory and food-testing microbiology experience with bachelor or masters degree in microbiology. All applicants should have experience testing for microbes, bacteria, listeria, salmonella, and similar food contaminants.   


Technical Manager oversees quality assurance systems and employee training for effective laboratory operations and will supervise these activities. Must have hands-on testing competence. 
  • Provide proficient hand-on microbiological testing for training and coverage purposes.
  • Responsible for application, evaluation, and training of approved microbiological and chemical techniques and methods use in analysis of food products.
  • Ensure teams comply with ISO/IEC 17025 guidelines for food testing laboratories.
  • Collaborate and partner with corporate quality assurance leadership and corporate trainer to execute role.
  • As member of lab management team, work closely to execute daily functions, not limited to maintenance of quality and training systems and provision of technical support to lab operations.
  • Provide proficient hand-on microbiological testing for training and coverage purposes.
Role consists of three major components: Quality Assurance, Training, and Supervision
  • Directly supervises employees.
  • Carries out role complying with organization's policies, standard operating procedures and best practices.
  • Train and mentor team members
  • Oversee and direct quality and training designates
  • Monitor and provide employee feedback, develop and monitor performance action plans and foster positive relations.
  • Ensure staffing and proper workforce planning interviewing applicants and on boarding new and transferring employees.
  • Take steps and proactively improve operational efficiency by focusing on customer service.
  • Direct work flow in the technical department and schedule employee hours; maintain harmony in the workplace, and professional business demeanor at all times.
  • Manage quality system and training of new and existing lab employees with direct accountability for the labs training program, administering technical and quality training to SOPs and compliance/accreditation requirements.
  • Ensure each employee has a laboratory training and compliance record; maintain record-keeping for training and competency records.
  • Directly contribute to continuous improvement of the overall training program for company, collaborating and partnering with others.
  • Technical proficiency to implement and maintain quality systems as dictated by ISO/IEC 17025, A2LA, FDA, and USDA; and to perform internal audits as scheduled.
  • Ensure policy and procedure implementation via managing company's document control system for initiating, updating, and changing P/P.
  • Manage and coordinate Proficiency Training Program.
  • Monitor employee needs and competency related to Proficiency Training.
  • Manage equipment calibration and verification; and monitor Control Sample and SPC.
  • This role directly supports lab and clients.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • BS degree in Microbiology required; May substitute BS in Biology, with applicable hands-on lab testing experience
  • MS degree in Microbiology preferred
  • Ability to differentiate between colors is required
  • 2-3 years of experience in a Microbiological testing laboratory required; food Microbiology preferred
  • Training experience required
  • Laboratory/technical auditing experience required
  • ISO / IEC 17025 knowledge required
