The Manager - Surgical Services will direct and organize all areas of the Operating Room, Post Anesthesia Recovery Room, Ambulatory Day Surgery, Endoscopy Services, and Sterile Processing Services; and will work collaboratively with all surgical staff and the medical directors of surgery and providers. This position will report to the Director of Nursing Operations. 

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure a safe, efficient and high quality provision of surgical services
  • Provide clinical expertise and leadership to a specialty nursing team, technicians and ancillary staff
  • Manage all rounding, direct care, and oversight of the team’s daily and on-call practices in the Surgical Services arena
  • Exhibit, evaluate, and implement excellence in the Surgical Services department to ensure optimal patient care experiences
  • Assist senior leadership in assessing and analyzing the need for new services, treatments, technologies, required resources, cost-benefit analyses and program concepts
  • Develop an annual budget, conduct monthly assessment and gap analyses, and strategies to optimize the efficiency and productivity targets of surgical services
  • Contribute to the hospital mission and goals, working alongside their team and peers to provide exceptional patient care
  • Create, revise, and the implement departmental and hospital-wide policies and procedures pertaining to surgical care, emergency management responses, and environmental control in compliance with state and federal regulations 


Education and Experience required:

  • An active RN license to practice for the state of Iowa
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in an OR setting as a manager is required
  • BSN required; Masters degree highly preferred (or obtained within 5 years of hire)
  • Active certification in BLS and ACLS required and must be maintained
  • Exceptional communications skills and able to work collaboratively with support staff and team, peers and senior hospital leadership  
  • Ability to prepare, analyze, and present reports and recommendations regarding operations, budgets, and improvement targets
  • Embrace and support change to enhance the organizational culture
  • Self Starter with strong leadership skills 
  • Financial and budgetary acumen, and strong computer skills required
  • Experience with EHRs required
